De Kalb Volunteer Fire Department

The De Kalb Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) provides critical fire suppression, rescue operations, and first-responder medical assistance to the citizens of De Kalb and the surrounding Bowie County emergency services district.

Active Fire Emergency

If you see an uncontrolled fire, a structure fire, or a vehicle collision with injuries, dial 911 immediately. For non-emergency burn notifications or general questions, please contact City Hall or the non-emergency dispatch line.

Become a Volunteer

Our department relies on the dedication of community volunteers. We provide all necessary structural and wildland firefighting training. Applications are available at City Hall.

Commercial Fire Inspections

New businesses within city limits require a fire marshal safety inspection prior to receiving a Certificate of Occupancy. Contact the department to schedule.

Fire Safety & City Ordinances

To protect property and life, the City of De Kalb strictly enforces the following fire safety codes:

  • Fireworks Prohibition: The possession, sale, or discharge of fireworks of any class is strictly prohibited within the De Kalb city limits at all times of the year. Violations result in immediate confiscation and municipal citations.
  • Smoke Detectors: Texas Property Code requires landlords to provide functioning smoke detectors in every bedroom and adjoining hallway of a rental property. Tenants must report faulty detectors in writing.
  • Fire Hydrant Clearance: Vehicles must not be parked within 15 feet of a fire hydrant. Additionally, property owners must ensure landscaping does not obscure hydrants from the street.
