The City of De Kalb is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all residents, including those with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards to our municipal digital presence.
Conformance Status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. dekalbtexas.org is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA.
Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard, often due to legacy PDF documents or third-party mapping software. We are actively working to remediate these areas.

- Consistent Navigation: Menu structures and naming conventions remain uniform across all departmental silos.
- Text Alternatives: We strive to provide Alt-Text for all functional and informative images (using SVG paths for high contrast).
- Keyboard Accessibility: All core functions, including our interactive municipal tools, are designed to be operable via keyboard.
- ARIA Landmarks: We use WAI-ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) landmarks to help screen reader users navigate the page structure.
