Municipal Court

The De Kalb Municipal Court adjudicates Class C misdemeanors, traffic citations, and city ordinance violations. Our mission is to provide an impartial forum for citizens to resolve citations fairly and efficiently under Texas state law.

Strict Deadline Warning

You must make an appearance (in person, by mail, or online) within 20 days from the date your citation was issued. A phone call does not constitute an appearance. Failure to appear will result in an additional charge of “Violate Promise to Appear” and a warrant will be issued for your arrest.

Pay Fine (Plead Guilty)

Paying your fine online or via mail constitutes a plea of Guilty or No Contest. The violation will be reported as a conviction on your permanent driving record.

Request a Trial

You have the right to a trial by judge or jury. You must submit your plea of Not Guilty in writing before your designated appearance date to schedule a pre-trial docket.

Defensive Driving (DSC) Requirements

Taking a Driving Safety Course (DSC) will keep the citation off your permanent driving record, preventing insurance rate increases. However, you must request permission from the Court BEFORE taking the class. You are required to submit:

  • A completed, notarized DSC Affidavit form.
  • Proof of valid Texas liability insurance (in your name).
  • A copy of your valid Texas Driver’s License.
  • Payment of State Court Costs (Administrative fees are non-refundable).
