De Kalb Chamber of Commerce

The De Kalb Chamber of Commerce is a dedicated coalition of local business owners, civic leaders, and entrepreneurs. Working in partnership with the City of De Kalb’s Economic Development office, the Chamber actively promotes local commerce, B2B networking, and community events.

City Government vs. Chamber of Commerce

New business owners often confuse the roles of the City and the Chamber. Here is how the two entities differ and work together to support your business:

  • The City of De Kalb (Regulatory): A municipal government entity. You pay the City for your building permits, utility setup, zoning approvals, and Certificate of Occupancy.
  • The Chamber of Commerce (Promotional): A private, non-profit 501(c)(6) business association. You pay the Chamber an optional annual membership fee. In return, the Chamber advocates for pro-business policies, hosts your ribbon-cutting ceremony, and actively markets your business to the community.
  • The Partnership: While legally separate, the City and the Chamber collaborate closely to retain existing businesses and attract new commercial investment to the De Kalb area.
