  2. DeKalb Tax Office Collects Over 2,300 Pounds of Food During Holiday Food Drive

DeKalb tax office collects over 2,300 pounds of food during holiday food drive

DECATUR, Ga. – The DeKalb County tax commissioner’s office completed its food drive, collecting 2,318 pounds of food to support the Atlanta Community Food Bank this holiday season. The donation will help provide 1,932 meals for families in DeKalb and neighboring communities. Customers visiting any tax office location were also invited to drop off donations during the food drive.

“I want to extend my sincere gratitude to all who joined us and contributed to the food drive, including the county's Planning & Sustainability Department. I especially want to recognize the employees in this office for their generosity and service to our community. Staff collected 2,029 items to help support the Atlanta Community Food Bank serving families in need this holiday season. It is truly heart-warming to see our community come together to support one another,” said Tax Commissioner Irvin Johnson.

The food drive was held at the Memorial Drive, Clairmont Road and South DeKalb Mall tax office locations from Nov. 4 through Nov. 21. All collected items were donated to the food bank on Nov. 25.

Last year, the tax commissioner’s office collected 1,409 pounds of food to support the ACFB. The donation provided 1,174 meals for families in DeKalb and neighboring communities.

The Atlanta Community Food Bank works with nearly 700 community-based nonprofit partners to distribute more than nine million meals across metro Atlanta and north Georgia. These include food pantries, missions, community and senior centers, schools, and healthcare facilities.
